At a time when environmental problems are at the heart of political, economic and societal discussions, good waste management is more than essential. Namely that each year, in France, more than 30 billion cigarette butts are found thrown to the ground. You too become a zero butt city.
Faced with this alarming situation, the challenge today is to live in clean and resilient urban spaces, while respecting our environment.
Butts have become predators for the planet and generate more than 4,000 chemicals and have immeasurable damage to living organisms such as aquatic species.
However, for these eco-gestures to become reflexes, common living spaces must be equipped with solutions to encourage individuals to follow the right approach. It is therefore the responsibility of communities to offer solutions to their citizens .
Today, many cities have decided to follow ÉcoMégot in a zero waste approach, such as Monaco, Lyon or Bordeaux. But the momentum must be even greater, and take on a national dimension.
A city with zero cigarette ends: what is it?
The objective is to make the population aware of the pollution problems caused by cigarette butts in order to change behavior and encourage everyone to throw their butts in ashtrays installed in public places. Multiple solutions have been developed to hire residents: voting ashtrays, outdoor ashtrays, pocket ashtrays or even voluntary drop-off points (PAV).
A zero butt city is also a community that supports a complete project ; from awareness to valuation, and which participates in the development of a new economy. Partnering with ÉcoMégot also means encouraging the social and solidarity economy by indirectly creating jobs for people who are far from it.
The various successes of this solution, proposed by ÉcoMégot, already demonstrate the civic sense of the inhabitants and their desire to participate in the “cleaning” of their cities. ÉcoMégot already has more than 1,200 terminals installed throughout France, more than 20 million cigarette butts already collected and recovered (= 7 tonnes) and around 3,500 kg of unemitted CO2 .
Thanks to this solution, the cigarette ends no longer end up in the sewerage networks: they are thrown into our ashtrays, then recovered. The environmental impact of cities is considerably reduced. Beyond the environmental aspect, an economic aspect : cleaning costs are reduced, the cleaning teams free up time to invest in other tasks to keep your city clean.
To spread good practices, ÉcoMégot proposes to highlight your environmental commitment . Thanks to communication tools and our awareness-raising actions, you transform your initiative into a collaborative and citizen project, all the more effective.
This approach pushes all individuals to become aware of the space in which they live and to act no longer individually, but for the good of all . And since it is not the size that matters, any structure or community can commit to making its public places clean and without butt!
